Welcome back to everyone for a new year of Square Dancing in 2021

operating under Covid Safe Rules.

At various times during our non-dancing period in 2020, Matthew updated

members with current regulations at the time regarding Square Dancing such

as, a survey of members thoughts on return to dancing with COVID safe

conditions to gauge a new date for commencement of dancing when

members felt comfortable to return.

AusDance with QLD Health have addressed the issue of social dancing with a new category which

our activity falls under, Recreational Structured Partner Dancing.

Under our Covid Safe Plan:

    • Those feeling unwell to stay home.
    • Hand sanitiser to be used regularly.
    • Seats to be spaced 1.5mtr between dancers unless you are living in the same household.
    • Dancers to clean their chairs down and put them away at the end of the night.
    • No shared supper for a while.
    • Dancers to bring their own drink containers.
    • If you are not fond of touching money, bring correct change.
    • Limited dancer number of 22 in our hall.


SQUARE DANCE CLOTHING

Rachelle Mills Square Dance clothing has been offered to our Club. Over

the years Rachelle hand made many beautiful National Convention outfits

Her wish was that her clothing continues to be worn by square dancers.

Items have been sorted into sizes and suggested prices for dancers to pay

as a donation to the club.

Photos of Rachelle’s outfits, along with some from other dancers, will be put

online soon. Items of interest can be taken to the hall on dance nights to

view and check for size.


WELCOME BACK - COMBINED GET TOGETHER

Sandy & John Lees offered their home for a combined get-together on 28th February.


CLUB BIRTHDAY - 12th MARCH - COMBINED DINNER AT MELBOURNE HOTEL

All leaners are welcome to celebrate our club birthday with the Friday dance group.

A menu with prices will be made available so meals can be pre ordered.

Birthday cake will be organised by the hotel and served as sweets.

ALL MEET AT THE MELBOURNE 5.30PM - EAT 6PM

FRIDAY NIGHT DANCERS ONLY - 7PM AT THE HALL.

(SORRY only because of Hall Number Restrictions – Friday Dancers only)

There will be a fun Night for Tuesday Dancers during that week.

A Donation Box will be available both Nights for our Charity Night.

Hawaiian night, September 2023

The 1st of September was our Hawaiian theme night. In the lead up to the night Matt spoke fondly of a Hawaiian shirt he had owned that Anita had thrown out. The theme gave him an excuse to buy a new one.  The new shirt had to meet with Anita's approval for wearing around town, so it was not as bold as he would have liked. A few flower leis got Matt's bright colour fix for the night.   Outfits worn on the night by dancers included bright and bold floral prints, a couple of grass skirts and of course, Hawaiian shirts and floral leis. It was nice to have a visiting dancer and a number of spectators on the night. A few people popped in looking for a different dance at another hall on Targo St. We might see them again at our learners class starting on the 12th of September. 2023 Christmas Dance

Cane Country Squares 2023 break up and free Christmas Dance was held on Friday 8th of December. The hall was decorated and dancers arrived dressed for the Christmas theme. Two squares danced most of the night with the new learners joining in.  We had enough Plus dancers for one and a half squares with the half square getting up to dance at one point rather than just waiting for a chance to swap with someone after the first dance of a bracket. It was a festive atmosphere with Matt calling to plenty of Christmas songs. The raffle consisted of an amazing collection of Christmas Hampers and there was a bottle of wine going to each of the two lucky spot and door prize winners. The club's donated clothing was also available on the night and it was nice to see some of the items, picked up on Tuesday, already being worn.  Of course, supper was the expected, excellent spread of savoury and sweet Christmas treats. Return to dancing 2024

Our first night back for 2024 was postponed for a week while Matt was unwell.  Matt did a great job calling on Friday night, while also trying to save his voice for this weekend. For the 10th and 11th Matt is a feature caller at the 20th Anniversary of the Logan City Square Dance Centre.  We started the year on Friday 9th with two squares on the floor for part of the night. The ceiling fans ran flat out, but it was not as hot as it has been lately, so we didn't need to close up the hall to run the air conditioner. It was great to dance again and catch up with people we haven't seen since last year. Some are still away so Matt is looking for an extra angle to dance the left hand side at our Tuesday night learners group. We look forward to getting back to dancing with our learners. It may take a few weeks to finish off the SSD program before they move to the Friday night club dancing. On Fridays, Matt will teach them the extra movements that take them to the Mainstream Level.  A
