This months fun theme was the Mad Hatters Tea Party. The Friday group had their Mad Hatter Night on September 5th. We had visitors from Hervey Bay and Adelaide join us for the night, making two squares on the floor most of the night. Videos of the night have started to be uploaded to our YouTube channel, at https://www.youtube.com/@canecountrysquares The Tuesday group had their Mad Hatter Night on the 9th of September. It is fantastic dancing with three squares on the floor. Most people brought their own Mad Hats or dressed in theme for the Mad Hatters Tea Party. A great deal of creativity went into lots of them. Those who didn't have a hat could still join in, with a selection of hats to borrow from the front table. Both nights also had a few special treats in addition to the usual biscuit selection. More photos from both nights can be seen in our 2025 Photo Gallery, https://canecountrysquares.blogspot.com/p/photo-gallery-2025.html .
Our first night back for 2024 was postponed for a week while Matt was unwell. Matt did a great job calling on Friday night, while also trying to save his voice for this weekend. For the 10th and 11th Matt is a feature caller at the 20th Anniversary of the Logan City Square Dance Centre. We started the year on Friday 9th with two squares on the floor for part of the night. The ceiling fans ran flat out, but it was not as hot as it has been lately, so we didn't need to close up the hall to run the air conditioner. It was great to dance again and catch up with people we haven't seen since last year. Some are still away so Matt is looking for an extra angle to dance the left hand side at our Tuesday night learners group. We look forward to getting back to dancing with our learners. It may take a few weeks to finish off the SSD program before they move to the Friday night club dancing. On Fridays, Matt will teach them the extra movements that take them to the Mainstream Level....
For the first time, our end of year Christmas Dance was held on a Tuesday, which will continue as our New Mainstream program night in 2026. It was a great atmosphere with the hall decorated, Christmas themed outfits and regular Friday night dancers attending. We had three squares on the floor most of the night with our new learners, with plenty of fun and laughter. Our new 2025 leaners have completed more than 30 of the 50 movements, giving Matt plenty of variety to keep us all dancing on the night. To give our new leaners more dancing time in the new year, we will delay the start of our next leaners class till mid year, with just the one intake of new leaners in 2026. Keep an eye on our website for updates. Old Mainstream level dancers will be able to dance the new program in 2026 on Tuesdays and continue with the Old Mainstream program, at least until the QLD State Convention to be held in Deception Bay on the 7th, 8th and 9th of August 2026. It was great to see visiting dancers from...
