Weekend with Nev and Bev a success

The Cane Country Squares dance on the 26th and 27th of October 2019 was enjoyed by local and visiting dancers. This was also the first dance event for some of our learners.
Thanks go to Nev and Bev Mclachlan as our guest square dance caller and round dance cuer.


On Saturday afternoon, Nev ran a session for Plus and Leaner Plus. We had a good turn out of dancers, keen to experience another caller and give Matt a chance to dance with us.



Saturday Evening was our main event, starting with round dancing cued by Bev. 
Nev continued the night with dancing for Mainstream and Learner Mainstream. 
We had three squares on the floor for leaner mainstream. The evening also included supper, a raffle, lucky number and door prize.



Sunday morning a dance was held for our new learners. As well as calling the movements they had learnt so far, Nev introduced our learners to the Grand Slide and work shopped some Star movements. 



The afternoon continued with a two hour session of Rounds cued by Bev. 
Later that day Matt called an A1 session, giving Nev and Bev a chance to dance together.

Our next local dance event will be our free Christmas Dance 6:30pm on Saturday 16th of November.

Hawaiian night, September 2023

The 1st of September was our Hawaiian theme night. In the lead up to the night Matt spoke fondly of a Hawaiian shirt he had owned that Anita had thrown out. The theme gave him an excuse to buy a new one.  The new shirt had to meet with Anita's approval for wearing around town, so it was not as bold as he would have liked. A few flower leis got Matt's bright colour fix for the night.   Outfits worn on the night by dancers included bright and bold floral prints, a couple of grass skirts and of course, Hawaiian shirts and floral leis. It was nice to have a visiting dancer and a number of spectators on the night. A few people popped in looking for a different dance at another hall on Targo St. We might see them again at our learners class starting on the 12th of September. 2023 Christmas Dance

Cane Country Squares 2023 break up and free Christmas Dance was held on Friday 8th of December. The hall was decorated and dancers arrived dressed for the Christmas theme. Two squares danced most of the night with the new learners joining in.  We had enough Plus dancers for one and a half squares with the half square getting up to dance at one point rather than just waiting for a chance to swap with someone after the first dance of a bracket. It was a festive atmosphere with Matt calling to plenty of Christmas songs. The raffle consisted of an amazing collection of Christmas Hampers and there was a bottle of wine going to each of the two lucky spot and door prize winners. The club's donated clothing was also available on the night and it was nice to see some of the items, picked up on Tuesday, already being worn.  Of course, supper was the expected, excellent spread of savoury and sweet Christmas treats. Return to dancing 2024

Our first night back for 2024 was postponed for a week while Matt was unwell.  Matt did a great job calling on Friday night, while also trying to save his voice for this weekend. For the 10th and 11th Matt is a feature caller at the 20th Anniversary of the Logan City Square Dance Centre.  We started the year on Friday 9th with two squares on the floor for part of the night. The ceiling fans ran flat out, but it was not as hot as it has been lately, so we didn't need to close up the hall to run the air conditioner. It was great to dance again and catch up with people we haven't seen since last year. Some are still away so Matt is looking for an extra angle to dance the left hand side at our Tuesday night learners group. We look forward to getting back to dancing with our learners. It may take a few weeks to finish off the SSD program before they move to the Friday night club dancing. On Fridays, Matt will teach them the extra movements that take them to the Mainstream Level.  A
