James Reid, Guest Caller September 2026

Such a great weekend was had by all attending on the 12 and 13th of September with James Reid as Cane Country Squares Guest Caller. Our regular Friday Night was called by Matt with lots of out of town visitors including callers from the Brisbane area dancing with us ahead of the weekend.

Saturday morning started with a Plus session. James was given an L Plate to wear since he hadn't called for some time. Ginna started dancing the mans side without a sash. When James became confused who was dancing the left side, Sandy rushed in to correct the situation.

When ever we have a guest caller Matt gets a chance to dance with us, which is always fun. We also had a lovely afternoon tea and supper on Saturday, consisting of sweet and savoury treats bought in by club members to share.

Saturday night was the Mainstream Session with some experiencing a different caller for the first time.
James Reid has such a wonderful signing voice but also sounds similar to our own caller Matthew Mills.

This was the easiest introduction for new dancers to here a different caller with their own dance patterners, while listening to a similar clear voice like they are used to. The two are also a treat to hear harmonising together.

James was upgraded to a P Plate for the Mainstream session which was held on the Saturday evening.
We were also introduced to James' love, Paula Mary (PM) who was watching Square Dancing for the first time.

Paula Mary did an excellent job of producing a Facebook real from her photos and short video clips of the weekend.

Of course, at the Sunday morning Mainstream session James was given a badge to say he was Fully Qualified to Call Square Dancing for us.

The Sunday morning continued with great music, fun and dancing.

Jo L had other commitments until Sunday but still managed to prepare a fantastic sausage sizzle lunch to finish the event.

The timing was extremely well organised, with the help of Sandy, to get the sausages served to those who needed to head on their journey home or to other functions by 12:30pm. Thankyou James for a great dance event and to all who helped with the weekend including set up, catering and the clean up.

Filming of the weekend was done with three mobile phone camera around the hall with a blind spot for the kids to play in. The footage will take a little bit of time to compile and release on our YouTube channel. There will also be an update to our 2026 Photo Gallery page soon.
